Resume and OCR

Just started helping my sister for a small sideline by formating candidates' resume into the required company format.
So far it has been an easy job and it only takes around 15 mins for a quick $5.

A quick glance through of the original resume is needed and then transplant information onto the template.

One resume stands out from the rest it is an image pdf which I cannot convert. Looked around for OCR scanner to pick up the words but unable to find one.
After some searching for a free OCR software, found a totally free or rather paid software already.
Surprise of all surprises, it is inside Microsoft Office. The application is called Microsoft Office Document Imaging.

There is some limitation to the application as it can only read tiff and it own MODI files formats.
It can be easily resolved by using snagit to take screenshot (use the scrolling screenshot to take a pic of the whole document), save as tiff and hey presto.

Information found at here. Credits must be given else I will not be able to blog here and advise!

Australia Trips

Well, I have been to Australia thrice so far. Twice is due to army matters and once for a vacation with Dear and her mum and granny.

Was stuck at Rockhampton twice for the army trips so nothing much to comment on that. For the vacation trip, we went to Sydney and nearby, inclusive of Darling Harbour. We stayed near Darling Harbour during one of the nights.

As we took a package tour, there are no concerns of getting a hotel to stay in. For those who plan to go Australia for a vacation, do visit Sydney. Thought of going Australia on a free and easy trip so I did up some research on places to stay. Found this website for Sydney hotels and also specifically Darling Harbour too.

As the package has a travel itinerary, we did not do much exploration. I will say, this trip is to get a general feel of the area so it will be easier to go free and easy travel on our own.

Did some researching on Sydney and surrounding areas, including Darling Harbour and turns out some interesting find.

Darling Harbour has many habourside entertainment and dining, for example, you can have alfresco dining at King Street Wharf, Cockle Bay or Harbourside. There are also ferries, cruises, sailboat, yacht or speedboat tours from Darling Harbour which allows you a fantastic view of the place and the waters. There are also free outdoor entertainment, monorail rides for an overview of Darling Harbour and surrounds.

And adding some cultural facade to the area, the Sydney Wildlife World is there also with its collection of animals unique to Australia, it is also the waterside home of Australian National Maritime Museum

And one of the best thing of all, it is just a 10-minute walk from city centre so you are not limited to doing activities on one area.

If you are planning to go Melbourne, which I do harbour some intention to go to also, you can find some great hotels here.

At Melbourne, there are lots of different restaurants, cafes, bistros and bars which really reflects Melbourne as the melting pot of cultures in Australia. Fashionable, eclectic and eccentric – Melbourne’s dining spots offer a dizzying spread of the world’s great cuisines, serving meals from the substantial and classic to the truly exotic.

In the city, you can enjoy afternoon tea in the genteel surroundings of a nineteenth-century hotel, watch and be watched in buzzing laneway cafés and bars, or handpick a bottle of Yarra Valley chardonnay at the latest über-chic hangout. Head out a little further and explore one of Melbourne’s specialist eating destinations – Richmond for cheap and cheerful Vietnamese dishes, Carlton for Italian classics, Fitzroy for tantalising Spanish tapas.

If you do explore the website I have given you, there are also hotels for other locations in Australia, do check them out!

Car insurance

Just read a thread in a forum I often visited about a fellow forumer's father in a bid to avoid accident and sped thru a red light. Hence, his father got a traffic ticket from the traffic police as there is a red light camera installed on that particular junction.

Most reactions are to brake and let the tailgating vehicle hit his vehicle will do as car insurance will take care of the bills for repairs etc.

As I have some free time on hand, so I just surf along for some car insurance available. Found this particular site which seem to offer quite a good deal. There are separated categories for different type of vehicles like Coverage For Sports Car, Classic Car Liability Insurance. There is even a quote page for those with bad driving records and tips to help the drivers

Do help yourself and other drivers by getting car insurance and a wide coverage. This is to help and protect yourself and other. You will never know when you need it.

Aftermath...

Seems like after helping a friend to blog a bit on the ODEX saga after a friend ask me to help to post the links etc, hits to my blog went up by a big rate. At the moment, more people are coming in.

The appeal to help, which I saw from the HWZ link my friend pass to me, certainly has quite a big influence. Well, I was willing to help, as the issue really is ..........

will post pics of stats later on when I reach home. Then again, it should have move more again.

Auctions

I normally do not have much luck with auctions as it always seems that I will be outbidded or bidded out of my budget. Tried reverse auctions before but seems like not much interest. Recently found a reverse auction site with a twist.

Instead of paying real money, you get to win the item you bid for! Prizes range from, Apple I-Phone’s, HDTV’s, Designer Bags, SCION XB’s to Cash Prizes. Sounds weird right! They have instructional video to guide you through the process so it is easy. Furthermore, it is a text-based reverse auction so it will be easier.

After reading through some of the instructions, seems like the number to sms to is not a SG number. I am not so sure but will check it out later. If your sms is unlimited or paid by company, this will be a great way to win some good items! Remember to check it out!

Was trying to create a FTP account and site for work and found this site. Pretty good site as instructions are quite clear and there are screen shots for the key dialog boxes and instructions.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance PS2

Just got the game recently.
Pretty fun game where you get to form a team of 4 marvel heroes and go save the world from the villains of the marvel world.

Just a tip for those playing.
You will need to have Iron Man on your team to be able to use Iron Man to activate his health console. Once done, you get a skill/body/focus point (do not remember which one). Also you can use the console to heal team members by controlling it and stand at the hologram area just on the left.

Only saw this answer in one particular forum. Also, same for Dr Strange, you must have him n your team, maybe even controlling him, when walking into his room to reveal 2 skill/body/focus point.
