Lone Wolf
I started playing the gamebooks, when I am in Primary 5 or so. that will be 15 years back.
Almost finished the whole series until I guess they stop bringing it in to Singapore.
Just a few years back, I sold my collection as I have found an online version and I was trying to recoup some of my money back. $8 a book back then was very expensive though I wun bat my eyelids paying $30++ for a book now.
The author, Joe Dever, currently is unwell, went through an operation and it was a success and now recuperating.
Article from the newsletter which I subscribed to, for the online version.
Joe Dever's Time of Need
by Jonathan Blake
A common aphorism says that a friend in need is a friend indeed. Now is Joe Dever's time of need.
We recently learned that Joe Dever is in need of surgery to remove malignant tumors on both of his kidneys. By the time we publish this issue of the Kai Grand Sentinel, Joe will have already been through a partial nephrectomy on June 8th. When we received his email, we immediately sent a message wishing him well in behalf of everyone involved with Project Aon (that means you).
On July 20th, after recuperation period for the first surgery, he will undergo a radical nephrectomy on his other kidney. We will keep you posted if we hear anything further about Joe's health.
The Lone Wolf MMORPG has posted a heartfelt message from Joe in response to their letter to him:
"I close my eyes. As I turn my head I see rank upon rank of noble Kai standing by my side, battle-armoured, caparisoned, resplendent. Their golden blades gleam in the dawn rays of an early summer's day, their proud faces resolute, steadfast against dark uncertainty. United and defiant we stand afore an implacable foe.
"I open my eyes. The Kai are with me still, strengthening my spirit, steeling my nerve for the fight that I alone must face. My battle, our victory.
"For Sommerlund and the Kai.
"Joe Dever"
This almost brought me to tears. I am a fan of the Lone Wolf series.
Reading all this, bonds me to all the other Lone Wolf fans together and hopes for the best for his health.
A small update from Jonathan Blake
We're very happy to report that Joe Dever's first surgery has been successful and that he has already been discharged from the hospital.

New Handphone!
Spent $398 on a new handphone. Bought the Motorola RAZR V3 (Black) phone. It is slightly better than the silver version as it has video-recording function.
Its design is sleek, metallic and cool! Though it is a bit broader than current phones, it is certainly one of the slimest handphone ard. This phone can last me through 2 years, I guess. Hee.

Issue with Employee blogging?
During our lunchtime break, the guys and I were talking a bit abt blogs. A small conclusion is that blogs belong to students, not working or in short, not working.
Why this conclusion? Generally, this is due to employees having blogs which may contains some work sensitive stuff. I am not talking about confidential work information but rather comments or remarks which fellow colleagues or bosses may read and eventually find out the blog is talking abt them. The comments and remarks mentioned here are of course, not pleasant and so on and so forth.
With this, I joined the conversation that self-censorship is important and names etc are to be omitted to prevent discovery, esp if you are not talking abt good stuff abt them.
However, with this statement, I think of myself. Yap, I did say a fair amt of work related stuff but generally they are censored to a certain extent. which should be still quite okies.
With the conversation in mind, how much should be revealed in a blog? This is a fine line to tread, esp with a few lawsuits had been filed with in regards to such situations. I believe it is important to watch what you say and not rant on like a personal diary. This diary is exposed to the whole community to read and know!

6 months of leave plan
As usual, my boss wanted us to submit a leave plan for the next 6 months, ie, 2nd half of the year.
Dutifully, I submitted mine. 1 week of leave for end October/early November for oversea trip (Hong Kong Disneyland). Excluding this week of leave and other leave I may take, I say I will clear my leave after that week. Pending my situation, either clear at end of November when my contract ends or the whole of November/December if extended. I mean as kinda of hints, and if contract is not renewed or at least no more working in m1, I will clear my leave end of contract to clear out.
She simply dun take the hint. She replied, telling me that not to bunch up my leave together in case I cannot take it. *Pengz*
So does this mean these? If I no longer works at M1, she wun let me clear my leave? I will talk to her boss about it and see who wins. F will get an earful from me. Even if I do not leave, what is 10 over days over a 2 months period? Is it so difficult to take leave?
Nothing to say....

PTC approved yet another fare increase!
PTC has approved of fare increase for bus and train fares. So what is new?
This time round, the increase is small, subjected to a 2.4% cap. This roughly translates to about 1-3 cents increase for mrt/lrt and 1 to 2 cents for bus, travelling using ezlink card. The brunt of the increase is on cash paying passengers where they will be subjected to a 10 cents increase.
This will results in an estimated of 1.3 to 1.4 million of profits to SBS Transit and SMRT. Quite a big increase in profits, I must say.
A small increase, one may say but mutiple small increases are as bad as one big fare increase. Even worse, they can claim they are small increases only and not big increases and hence justifying yet another fare increase. Pardon the jump in logic, but well, not in the mood for long lengthy essaay, esp I have another 2 blogs to flesh out!
Read 2 letters to the forum page on the Straits Time (no URL as the online paper needs subscription). Interesting and thought for food. Esp when most of the time, we are always the passive.
Price adjustment, only downwards adjustment, should be done periodically to ensure that travel fares maintain low and not inflated towards operators' profit only. This will ensure that fares are in touch with the economic situation at times. Handling out subsidies to needy familes can reach so much, if the fares are high, you will be dragging people down to a level that they will need subsidies soon.
There is an article that is shown in all newspapers, saying the fare increase of an average household of 2 adults and 2 kids is only about $2-$3 per month. The average cost is $144 so it rose to $146. How do they derive $144 when I am hitting $100 a month.
Let's work out my cost.
Bus service 26/853 to Kallang MRT - $0.63
Kallang MRT to Jurong East MRT - $1.44
Rebate - ($0.25)
One way journey - $1.82
Two way journey - $3.64
Assume 20 working days - $72.80
2 adults like me will be a $145.80, above cost estimation. Yes, it did say average, I do not consider myself as the higher end, as more ppl take 2 buses and the mrt to travel to work.
Worse off, this is only for daily working commuting purposes only...
